Verbena hastata

Vervain - Blue

Blue Vervain is a tall narrow clumping native which produces candelabra-like panicle spikes in mid to late summer. The small violet and purple flowers emerge sequentially, climbing up the short stems of the panicles. Verbena hastata provides nectar for a wide variety of bees and native pollinators, and its leaves are food for the larvae of several butterflies including the Common Buckeye Butterfly. In the fall, songbirds consume the seeds. This is a great native for rain gardens, wet meadows and pollinator gardens. Deadhead to prolong bloom display.
